Dr. Mark L. Chapman is an Associate Professor of African and African American Studies at Fordham University, currently serving as Associate Chair of the department. He is also a second-generation pastor and the pastor of North Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Dr. Chapman’s research focuses on the black prison experience and its implications for black liberation theology.

He is the author of Christianity on Trial: African American Religious Thought Before and After Black Power, which examines the evolution of African American religious thought in relation to the Black Power movement. His work contributes to a prophetic critique of the criminal justice system from a theological perspective.
